🌟 Why Nirjala Ekadashi Is So Important
Among all Ekadashis:
⭐ Nirjala Ekadashi is considered the highest and most difficult.
According to the scriptures:
Observing a single Nirjala Ekadashi with sincerity grants the spiritual merit of observing all 24 Ekadashis of the year.
This is why devotees who are unable to observe every Ekadashi are especially encouraged to observe:
⭐ Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat
📖 Why Is It Called Bhimseni Ekadashi or Pandava Ekadashi?
Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as:
- Bhimseni Ekadashi
- Bhima Ekadashi
- Pandava Ekadashi
This name comes from a famous Mahabharata-era legend.
🛕 The Story of Bhima & Nirjala Ekadashi
Among the Pandavas:
- Yudhishthira
- Arjuna
- Nakula
- Sahadeva
- Draupadi
All regularly observe Ekadashi fasting.
However:
⭐ Bhima struggled to fast.
Known for his enormous appetite and immense physical strength, Bhima found it difficult to abstain from food.
Feeling disappointed and spiritually guilty, Bhima approached:
⭐ Maharishi Vyasa
and requested a solution.
Maharishi Vyasa advised:
“If you cannot observe all Ekadashis, then sincerely observe one Nirjala Ekadashi without food and water. It will grant the merit of all Ekadashi fasts.”
Bhima accepted the instruction and observed the vrat with determination.
From that time onward:
⭐ Nirjala Ekadashi became known as Bhimseni Ekadashi.
