What Is Sahasra Chandi Path?
Sahasra means one thousand. Chandi Path is the recitation of the Durga Saptashati — the seven hundred verses arranged in thirteen chapters, drawn from the Markandeya Purana and also known as Devi Mahatmya.
Sahasra Chandi Path is therefore one thousand complete recitations of that text, performed as a single undertaking with one sankalp running through it.
It sits at the top of a traditional ladder of Chandi observances, which are distinguished by the number of recitations:

How the Recitations Are Counted
This is the part most worth understanding before you book anywhere.

20 pandits × 5 recitations per pandit per day × 10 days = 1,000 recitations
That arithmetic is stated openly because it is what you are commissioning. When comparing providers, ask any of them for the same three numbers. The total of one thousand is fixed by tradition; the staffing and duration that reach it are a matter of planning, and a provider who cannot state theirs is worth a second question.
Each pandit recites for approximately a full day. Recitation pace varies between individual reciters, so the temple does not publish a fixed hourly schedule it cannot hold to.
A Schedule Arranged Around You
The one thousand recitations are fixed. How they are distributed is not.
If you need the anushthan completed in fewer days — for a specific muhurta, a family occasion, or travel plans — the number of pandits is increased accordingly. If you would prefer it observed over a longer period, a smaller team recites across more days.
The schedule is settled in consultation with Acharya ji, who will keep it within what the discipline of an anushthan genuinely supports. An anushthan is a sustained observance, and neither an extremely compressed nor an indefinitely extended schedule serves it well. Acharya ji will tell you plainly what is workable.
Traditional Significance
Within the Shakta tradition, repeated recitation of the Durga Saptashati under a single sustained sankalp is regarded as a form of tapasya — the merit understood to arise from the discipline and continuity of the observance, not from the count alone.
Navratri, both Chaitra and Shardiya, is traditionally regarded as the most auspicious period for Chandi observances. A Sahasra Chandi Path may be undertaken at other times of year, with the start date fixed in consultation with Acharya ji.

How the Anushthan Is Performed
The anushthan follows this sequence:
- Day one — Sankalp puja. The sankalp is performed with your name, gotra and stated intention, establishing the purpose under which all one thousand recitations are offered. You participate live over video call.
- Daily puja. Regular puja is performed each day of the anushthan alongside the recitations.
- Recitation. The pandits recite the complete Durga Saptashati according to the arranged schedule, continuing until one thousand recitations are complete.
- Daily Brahmin bhojan. Brahmin bhojan or falahar is offered once each day for the duration of the anushthan.
- Final day — ashirwad puja. Once the thousand recitations are complete, the ashirwad puja is performed on the concluding day, with you participating live.

This is a path, not a yagya. Sahasra Chandi Path is the recitation of the Durga Saptashati one thousand times. It does not include a concluding yagya or havan. Sahasra Chandi Yagya is a distinct and larger ritual. Many providers use the two names interchangeably, so when comparing quotations, establish whether a fire ritual is actually included in the price.
Samput is not included. This is performed as a standard Sahasra Chandi Path. Samputit recitation — where a beej mantra is interposed between verses — is a distinct practice offered separately. Participating from Anywhere
You do not need to travel to Khargone. The anushthan is performed at the temple on your behalf, and you take part at the two points where your presence carries the most meaning.
The sankalp on day one is conducted live over WhatsApp video call, or another platform if you prefer, so you are present as your name, gotra and sankalp are spoken and the intention for all one thousand recitations is established.
The ashirwad puja on the final day, once the thousand recitations are complete, is also conducted live with you present.

Every anushthan at Shree Navgrah Mandir is performed with a personal sankalp. The one thousand recitations are offered under your stated intention, not as a general observance.
After booking, the temple contacts you on WhatsApp to collect what is needed — the name or names of the devotees, gotra, and the intention. If you do not know your gotra, Acharya ji will guide you; tradition provides for this, and it is a common question.
These details are used only for the performance of the ritual. The temple does not publish or share devotee details.
Dakshina
₹5,30,000 for the standard arrangement of 20 pandits over 10 days.
This covers the dakshina for the twenty pandits, the daily Brahmin bhojan or falahar, the puja samagri, and the sankalp and ashirwad puja.
Where the schedule is altered — a larger team over fewer days, or a smaller team over a longer period — the dakshina is confirmed at the time of planning. Prasad dispatch is optional and charged separately.
